I was in the worst depression of my entire life. My (now ex) boyfriend and I had broken up, my hometown of a population of 1700 had just been hit by an EF4 Tornado that wiped out the south side of Greenfield, Iowa (5 blocks away from my childhood home my parents still live at), I hadn’t booked any acting gigs in 8 months, I was working 3 jobs – my life felt like it was crumbling from underneath me. I was exhausted.
My life felt meaningless, I thought.
My mother called me a couple days after the tornado to tell me that Tosha Silver had one spot just open up for her retreat in Costa Rica. “When is it?” I asked. “Next week and I’m buying it for you now,” she said. As I was looking at myself in the mirror with eyes that barely had a flicker of light in them, I said, “okay.” I had no idea who this woman was who was speaking. I had no idea what I was in for.
And let me tell you, It was the best decision I have ever made in my entire life.
First: Who is Tosha Silver?
Tosha Silver graduated from Yale University with a degree in Literature and is an Author of It’s Not Your Money, Living in Outragous Openness, and Change me Prayers. She has taught people inner love and light for the past 30 years and is quite honestly an inspiration to us all.
Topics You Will Go Into While On The Retreat
Every day you spend about 4 hours with Tosha in the morning. She’s a brilliant story teller and shares her life experiences dealing with
- Grief
- Shame
- Fear
- Anger
- Love
- Surrendering to the Divine
- The Ring Of Fire
- Inner Child
- a little astrology
- And so much more!
It’s all relatable and uplifting. You have to go through it in order to heal from it, after all. She then gives the microphone to anyone else who wants to share their stories. It’s always a safe space but Tosha never pressures anyone to talk- you don’t have to speak the entire retreat if you choose not to!
Tapping and dancing with Kate
After your session with Tosha, you will have lunch and then spend a few hours with Kate if you so choose. You don’t have to go to any classes you don’t want to though!
Kate Winch is a transformational speaker and an EFT tapping expert. She also reminds me of my mom which is a plus- she is a beautiful woman with beautiful energies. I highly recommend going to her classes. You can even find free classes on her instagram here!
What is tapping you ask? Tapping different parts of the body releases stress, clearing negative emotions, and removing blocks and beliefs so you can live life to the fullest. I felt so light after every session.
Then she starts her Qoya Dance. You can watch youtube videos here. It’s really just dancing however you feel with a bunch of women who are also dancing however they feel, with their souls. It’s awesome.
The End
Honestly, I could have stayed here forever with these women but it had to come to an end. We broke our “ring of fire” coconuts, meditated, laughed and cried together.
One of the last things we did was the Gift Giveaway table. This is a great way to exchange energies. You bring an object that no longer serves it’s purpose with you and put it on this table. By the end of the week, the table is filled with books, jewelry, pins, hats, gloves, and so much more. Then we pick something off the table and hear the wonderful stories of your new gift. Make sure to bring one or more! I brought a rock necklace that kept me safe during my stroke. I received an umbrella pin of a broadway star! That was definitely a sign.
The Gift that Keeps on Giving
I met over 40 women on this retreat and can tell you a story from each and every one of them. These were the most brilliant women with the most beautiful stories, some heartbreaking but some uplifting too. All inspirational. Yes, we were all there because we all have trauma and karma we need to go through but wow did I feel safe and free. I’ve never felt such a light in my heart. I realized how meaningful my life and who I am really is and it has followed me like the 8 year old child holding my hand since.
After the retreat I stayed in contact with many of the women who I met. One of the them just sent me a pair of shoes in the mail because they were too small for her! Another, I just visited in Switzerland and she helped me with an acting audition! Last night I talked for an hour about the election with another woman. This retreat is really the gift that keeps on giving…
