Going to San Miguel De Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico? Here is everything you need to know and more.

San Miguel De Allende is one of the most safest and beautiful places to travel in Mexico. My partner and I went here for a wedding and it did not disappoint. From the architecture to the prices – this is a place you’ll fall in love with. Here are lots of different things you can do in San Miguel De Allende. Also note that I was only here for 4 days and most of these recommendations are of the bride and groom who stayed here in San Miguel for months.

TIPS:

  • Bring Cash! A lot of places still only use cash here.
  • DO NOT BRING HEELS. The roads are broken in a lot of places and the whole city are hills of rocks – you will roll your ankle even if you have flats on.
  • Check the weather! Mexico was having a cold front and, thinking it was going to be 70’s/80’s, I only brought summer attire. It was 40’s and 50’s the whole time and it was miserable.
  • Be ready to drink tequila. If you don’t like tequila, I’m not sure this is the place for you. 😉
  • Tips are expected. Please be nice to all service workers- they are unbelievably good.
  • This is a very religious city. Be respectful!
  • DO NOT rent a car. It’s hard to drive here with all the cobble roads.
  • San Miguel is about an hour away from any airport! You can take a shuttle from the airport – here is the link for reliable shuttles.

Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens are just alright. I mean what would you expect coming to a dessert? There’s a bunch of cacti and rocks. We also saw some ant hills that were surprisingly cool. Come here if you’re looking for something to do but the Botanical Gardens is not a must see.
